Re: "Authorized Software" in FHC?

I think it's important to differentiate between "authorized software" which is, I believe, a local decision, and "certified software" which is a familysearch decision. In our own center, we don't install software with read/write access to patrons' familysearch data unless it's ce...

Re: Family tree relation feature

Interestingly enough, a very limited version of this already exists under Temple > Opportunities. In your Opportunities List every individual listed should have a "Whats My Relationship?" link directly below their PID. This link shows a modified tree that illustrates your relationship but ...

New Quarterly Report: Monthly Interval

Our bishop has requested that we more fully utilize this information in our ward council. I see from the description that the bishop may request the report on a monthly basis, but not how to initiate that process. Will it be updated automatically if the clerk resubmits the data, or are there additio...

Re: Personal Security and Family History

I can't speak to the security systems employed by the church or familysearch's ability to adequately serve as an archive. I can say that I will always suggest that patrons keep a backup of their genealogical information in a location that they can control. It's not that I don't trust the church (whi...

Re: Personal Security and Family History

I agree that there is a concern with regard to having your familysearch account compromised, but I don't think I'm quite ready to lose sleep over it. I have greater concerns with patrons' (and staffers') other security habits: + How many patrons use their email address & password for their famil...

Re: "Authorized Software" in FHC?

I loaded the PHC extension into Chrome this morning and let it run. Four hours later, it had finished my tree (back to the mid-1300s, where it apparently stops looking) and found forty names, most of whom were born before 1700, and in family lines I'm not very familiar with. Then it started on my wi...

Re: "Authorized Software" in FHC?

From what I've learned, the extension (Pandora's Hope Chest) can be very useful. I'm trying to reserve judgement for after I've had time to really fidget with it, but my first experience was a bit negative. I think your last two questions hit the nail on the head for me, and would form a great found...

Re: "Authorized Software" in FHC?

You're right ... "flooded" is a bit strong. I've already received several requests, but I'm sure they'll taper off once we get rolling. ;) I'm totally on board with taking advantage of free software, and want patrons to have access to the best tools available. I'm just trying to find a com...

Re: setting up new FHC printers to scan

It looks like this post has been inactive for a little while, but I thought I might chime in to say that we were able to get our MX511 set up to scan last week. Like the OP, we had issues sharing a single folder in our FHC, so went instead with setting up a folder on each computer and using profiles...

"Authorized Software" in FHC?

I recently started working with our Family History Center Director to standardize and maintain the computers in our FHC. We found that the administrator login was pretty widely known and, as a result, there was so much stuff (I'm not sure what else to call it) to fix/uninstall, that I've decided to ...
