U.S. Daylight Savings Time Change

From the Microsoft Knowledge-base Article:

"Starting in the spring of 2007, daylight saving time (DST) start and end dates for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. DST dates in the United States will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November)."

Given the emphasis the MLS team has placed recently on making sure the clocks on Stake/Ward computers are accurate, I would assume that this change would be important to address.

Since we can't access the Internet directly, will the MLS team push out the necessary patches to the workstations during one of our Send/Receives? Or do we need to manually apply the patch?

I can't give you the official line on this.
All I can tell you is that my Stake
Technology Specialist has already
manually applied the Microsoft Patch
to our machines.

For those of you in the know, I noticed
on the java site recently that there was
2007 DST update listed - Does anyone
happen to know if Java itself will need
a DST update independent of the OS ?

If so, seems we have another DST patch
to deal with. Unless you are in Arizona.

Yes, Java requires seperate attention from the OS it is running on.

Since Java itself needs to patched seperate from the OS,
is this something that needs to be manually patched by
the Stake Technology Specialist, or will this be handled
using the patching mechanism of MLS during a Send / Receive ?
Anyone have the official story ?

The next major release of MLS (planned to be released before November) will use JRE 6, which has the DST fix in it.

When does the new DST go into effect? I think it's this year on March 11. In which case, isn't this patch coming a little late? Are any work-arounds going to be announced?

Although.... As long as the computer isn't left on overnight (or suspended), I guess the java patch wouldn't be a problem since it has to set itself on boot-up anyway. As long as Windows is patched, it's probably no big thing.
