language setting on lds.org site defaulting to portuguese

#1

Post by indievisabull »

i just got called to be the assistant ward website administrator, and my main focus is to post family bios and other ward news/events in the ward newsletter portion. however, each time i try to go into the particular portion of the website--the language pops up in portuguese. i change it into english repeatedly, but it will still default into portuguese. can this be changed? i'm not sure how i can accomplish my calling, if i can't even read/understand the actual portion of the site that i need to. thanks in advance!

That seems to happen from time to time. You may need to clear your browser cache and/or cookies.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

At the end of the URL there is a language parameter like this: ?lang=xxx ("xxx" being a three-letter language code). For example:
https://www.lds.org/?lang=eng

The first thing you can try is making sure "lang" is properly set to English or whatever language you prefer. If that doesn't work, another thing that sometimes works is adding a "clang" parameter like so:
https://www.lds.org/?lang=eng&clang=eng

I think "clang" stands for "change language," but I'm not sure. I had my LDS.org defaulting to Arabic for a while, after having visited an Arabic page on LDS.org, and I used the "clang" to switch it back to English.

eng = English
spa = Spanish
por = Portuguese
et cetera
