Primary - non-member children

#1

Post by cchang »

What information do we need to add non-member children to member parents? Would this be the same as recording a birth record of a baby? For example, we have a primary child who is 12 years old who is not a member but his mother is a member. Can we simply create their record under their mother's household so that they show up in the attendance role?

You can add them to the Family tab in LCR by finding the parent's record, click the Family tab and then clicking the Add Child link at the bottom of the page. Enter them as a non-member.

However, they will only show up on the Family tab for the parent. They will not show up on the Household tab, the Member List or on attendance rolls. There is no way of adding a non-member child in those places once they have turned 8. At that point they have to be baptized in order to create a record for them.

There's no way of adding non-members to the ward. If the child was under the age of 8, they could be added as "member of record" if the conditions found in Handbook 1 where complied with. But once they reach 8, they have to be baptized to be added.

Do you know off hand what some of those "conditions" in the handbook are when adding "member of record"? Does the system automatically not allow entering non-member family records for children above 8?

The conditions primarily involve having proper consent from the parents. But they only apply to children under 8 years old.

LCR will not allow you to create any kind of record for someone 8 years old or older unless you also record a baptism at the same time. There isn't any way around that.

The conditions for creating a "Member of Record" are found in Handbook 1: 13.6.2. One of the requirements is that the child be under the age of 9.

You can add the child to the parent's record in what I call the "genealogical section". The names are there even if the child grows up, moves out, or dies. But that's not going to add the name to Primary roles.

Since the child in question is over the age of 9, there is no way of adding them to the system to be included in the roles.

What would be the workaround to have non-members show up on the attendance roles without having to manually write their names each time on the attendance sheets?

There is none.

There used to be, but it was removed.

At this point, your only option is to hand write it or baptism.

When I tried to add the child, it asks the questions:
Is the Child a member of the Church?
1. Yes
2. No
3. I need to create a record. (To create a record, select Create Record from the membership menu.)

Is adding a non-member 'Child' to the parent's record simply a placeholder in the household that doesn't show up in any reports for the non-member child?

Adding the child to the parent's record only shows that the parent had a child. It only appears when looking at the parent's membership record/IOS. It does not appear in the household, on any rolls or any reports.
