Do we still have a Sandbox page in the wiki for users to try editing and exercise the WYSIWYG editor without affecting the important pages? I think it's important to have a sandbox so new users can try editing without being afraid of messing up someone's page. Here is Wikipedia's sandbox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sandbox

You can create your user page and play there.

You could also create a page called Sandbox by putting in [[Sandbox]] and whatnot, but I think your user page is probably a better place, so people don't mistake it for something other than practice.

I was able to create a sandbox at:
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Sandbox

You can get to it from wiki-land with [[Sandbox]].

I still think your user page is a better place for you to play.

Thanks

I'm not too familiar with either the user page or the sandbox page in wikis, although I understand that Wikipedia has a sandbox area. Are there some good things to do that will make the experience using either work well?

I'm OK either way on using one or the other. Whatever works best on the site for us, any given wiki does it differently from others anyway.

How did our sandbox work before, Bruce? I never used it because I didn't know where it was, so clearly we should make the path more obvious. But how did it get purged periodically?

Sandboxes are generally a place to play around with building articles and stuff without incurring the wrath of the moderators. Since the sandbox is set aside as a play area, you can practice markup, linking and stuff like that. Generally, stuff in the sandbox is ignored, but may be deleted without warning, or after a period of inactivity

You can use your user page, linked from your user name to do similar things. If you look at my user page, I have a few things I was playing with on it. It seems molliewog has been trying out tables.

Your user page is less likely to be randomly deleted than the sandbox, but probably would still get removed if you do something inappropriate or 'bad'.

Keep in mind that it is hard to emulate some of the more advanced wiki features in these areas. If you start categorizing sandbox or user pages, expect a moderator to come find you.

Hmm, this is starting to sound like an article :)
