Attaching Records - Replacing existing fields

#1

Post by StevenTomer »

When you attach a record, you can copy across the data, but you cannot replace the value of existing fields.

For example, if you had the following data before attaching:

John Greenbank
b. abt 1865
p. of London, England

and the birth record you are attaching to has the following:

John Greenbank
b. 14 May 1866
p. London, Middlesex, England

You cannot apply this data to the record automatically. It's attached in the source information, but you have to MANUALLY put the updated information into the record.

You can replace data when you merge. Why can't you replace it when attaching to a record that has better information?

Thanks,

It would be nice if the attach process was like the merge process where you get to pick what information gets updated.
