Some time ago, the Church announced in a strategy document on that the scriptures (and most other content) would be available in XML. What is the status of the XML scriptures and other XML content in general?


XML is the base for the current online scriptures and for all content on the new For the online scriptures, the XML is converted to a proprietary optimized format before being published on the Web site. For all other content, all of the XML is converted in real-time to HTML for Web presentation. The Church will continue to move to an XML-based publishing environment over the next few years.

Discussions continue on why, how, and whether to make the XML documents accessible to external users. Copyrights and other legal concerns are integral to the discussion.
