The Museum of Church History and Art hosts an International Art Competition every three years. Submissions for the 8th International Art Competition are currently being taken. All LDS artists ages 18 and older are invited to submit their works for a chance to share with the worldwide audience of the Church.

This year is unique because it is the first time that the competition will include an official online presence. Artists will have the ability to submit their entries online and manage their information and submissions digitally. The management of submissions will also become more streamlined, efficient, and require less data entry. Communications between the Museum of Church History and Art and artists will also be faster and easier.

The International Art Competition Web site is offered in ten languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, French, Italian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese). Submissions may be made in one of the ten languages and will be reverse-translated for added ease to international users. The content is managed with the Vignette management system and the International Art Competition tool itself. It is one of the first Church applications to utilize the LDS Account portal for the general membership.

Registration and management tools were created using the Church’s Java Stack 2.0, an application created by the Church that utilizes open-source tools to streamline and standardize the effort behind launching an official Church application. The main components of Java Stack are JavaServer Faces (JOSEF), the service tier using Spring, the build tool built upon Maven, and the object-relational mapping (ORM) query language JPA/Hibernate.

The 8th International Art Competition Web site makes submitting LDS artwork and participating in this exciting competition easier than ever. Please let your talented friends and family members know about this exciting opportunity.
