How do we push accessibility into Church software and projects?

I'm excited to see this forum, because it says the church is at least considering the need for accessibility in its software. My question is, how do we push accessibility into the church's projects? Is there a formal review of features in the development process? Do we consider accessibility at that...

CSV format for Quarterly report

The quarterly report provides valuable information for a quarter. We have in the past, used a spreadsheet to map that over time, so we can see trends. That proved to be a time consuming process because the data had to be re-entered by hand. If we could get the data in the printed Quarterly statistic...

Flash not really accessible on any platform.

gkearney wrote:Flash is problematic for the blind as it is not accessible on Macintosh OS computers with VoiceOver.

Flash / Flex don't work well on windows, either. Adobe says it is accessible, but practice shows it is very hard to make Flash accessible.

For example, the Indexes to Irish Births and Marriages are already a readable index and possible to view and sear...

The Irish Death lists have about 375 names in them and no line numbers. When one or both indexers get off the arbitrator has to fix the mess. I wish feedback to the programers was possible because there is a real need to be able for the arbitrator to insert a record in either the A or B indexing to...

Not so easy when you're dealing with data entry. All of the work is done by two separate people. An arbitrator views and discrepancies. More errors, more work for the arbitrator. There's also be possibility that the two data entry people are wrong - but agree. In that case the error may not get cau...

Benefits? Transfer of late career IT professionals?

Hi, tell me about this scenario: looking at early retirement after 25 years developing application software, including Java, C++, user interfaces, web programming, internationalization, accessibility. Looking for a place to contribute for 10 years or so before real retirement. Not looking to get ric...

Quality competition.

Though a downside with competition is to get accuracy, when people are competing for numbers the quality might go down. If you could keep track of quality AND quantity then competition is great. Easy, you post the number of errors along side the corrects. Or a percentage. Or subtract the bad from t...

More feedback = more participation

I've started indexing, and I agree with all the comments, here. Successfully group projects have more feedback for the group and their goals. Sub-groups and teams also build. Think about getting a Priest Quorum to compete against the Laurels, etc. You wouldn't have to tie this to a specific ward. Yo...
