Hometeaching a deaf member with peer-to-peer chat

I was assigned to hometeach a sister in our ward who was deaf. No one in the ward knows sign language, so I've been using some technology to chat. They didn't have Internet, or a wireless router, so I had to think of another solution. Here is what I'm doing. If anyone has ideas to make it better I'm...

imports / exports with MLS

I just noticed that the standard exports for MLS do not include recent HT/VT visits. Does anyone know how to export these? We would like to include these as part of our "companion database" without the need for double reporting by EQ, HPG, and RS. An alternate would be to ask EQ, HPG, and ...

Answered previous question

I just answered my previous question by utilizing the database. Great idea. We hope to develop something based on the same concept, but for our specific application.

What MLS exported data as feed to database app?

Great concept! I have a couple questions relating to the underlying conceptual data schema for the model, but first a short history so that you know the context. short history: Elder L. Tom Perry recently gave a priesthood training to our stake and told us that our wards should keep area books, espe...

Object Lessons and Historical Significance

I would never sift through posted lesson plans to prepare a lesson - it is too burdensome per reward... However, there are two aspects of lesson planning in which I am constantly searching for help and inspiration: (1) object lessons and (2) historical relvance (1) object lessons: A couple of years ...

"geocoding" using Google Earth

Part of the problem there is that ESRI no longer puts the latest Census TIGER maps (in shapefile form) on its site. They do bundle (starting with 9.2) map data from TeleAtlas with ArcGIS. So for now I'm using that to match most of the stake (slightly larger than Connecticut, covering almost all of ...

I would like to make a contribution

I can also contribute. I constructed a custom geodatabase application to demonstrate some of the multiregional interdependency modeling proposed in my dissertation. It is built on what I call a WAMP+M stack ( W indows operating system, A pache web server, M ySQL database engine, P HP scripting, + M ...

building collective intellegence through Wiki s

WHat other ideas do people have that would allow us to get involved and build community? Has anyone read the book Infotopia: How many minds produce knowledge (Sunstein, C.R., 2006, Oxford Press). Sunstein describes in detail several concepts of group deliberation that can result in collective knowl...

test the service on beta.tech.lds web site

it would be great if the sms messages could be set on a schedule to remind attendees that yw/ym /scouts/activity/etc...starts in half an hour. That is a great idea. You would need to estimate the demand so that the infrastructure could be sufficient robust to handle X message at 6:30pm, since every...

Excellent Idea - Problems in Rural Areas

Has there been any discussion about setting up SMS messaging for the Unit sites through the Unit Admins. I think that allowing users to enter their SMS phone number and opt in to recieve message via that method could be tremendous....talk about a jump start to emergency preparedness contacting. Thi...
