Putting things in context
I'm offended as much as the next person by ads and promoted videos that frequently show up on youtube. However, I no more consider the church's use of youtube to be an endorsement of that platform than do I see the broadcasting of general conference on cable tv to be an endorsement of a particular c...

Marking Scriptures Online
I've had some success with using Diigo (http://www.diigo.com') as a highlighting and note-taking feature on scriptures.lds.org. It's not necessarily available offline, but you can view your highlights and notes with a browser add-in or bookmarklet from any computer.

Maybe Steven has something in mind like the current application for making missionary assignments. I found this description on the northtemple.com blog and think some of that functionality could be imported into MLS. http://northtemple.com/2007/07/30/the-intersection-of-inspiration-and-innovation (R...

Church videos on YouTube outside of PublicAffairs Channel
Perhaps this should be a separate thread, but this discussion makes me wonder what the Church's view is on individual members uploading Church-produced videos such as The Nativity in its original ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=nUm4KwH3Aww&feature=related ) or a mash-up ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=0b9...

A few questions on social networking
Right. So, back to the original problem: Would the development of safe alternatives to current trends (i.e., a Church-developed social networking site) be unnecessary or ineffectual? 1) if the Church developed a social networking platform, would this be universally open, or would it be restricted t...

What about Photos of Individuals?
Has anyone thought of taking pictures of individual members and not just family photos? Family pictures are helpful for associating people, but I think individual photos would be more useful for primary teachers and youth leaders seeking to connect the names and faces of the children they serve. Per...

Do you have a story to tell?
It appears Joel has been thinking a lot about Wikinomics. (See Joel's post). Following up on the idea that collectives are better at finding solutions than identifying problems, I think this idea can be used to extend the current practice of the Church Magazines of inviting stories from members abou...

I wouldn't say it's counter inituitive. From the search engine's perspective it may make perfect sense. If I were giving a talk about pride and was heavily referencing back to President Benson's talk, I'd likely use the word "benson" in my text several times along with the word pride. Even if the au...

Real people on mormon.org
I tried to send the below message through the feedback link on beta.mormon.org. After pressing submit, I'm just getting a blank page. I don't know if the feedback system is working, so I'm posting the content here. Hopefully, this is okay. First of all, I love the face-to-face interaction available ...

URL Shortcuts
I also tend to use lds.org/units to get to the LUWS. I like the short urls such as: lds.org/temples lds.org/music lds.org/newsroom lds.org/handheld lds.org/techtalks lds.org/library I find I can direct people to specific sections of [...
