Linking scripture software

I've been playing with some mainstream Christian apps that allow users to link multiple books to the Holy Bible. The two I have played around with the most are http://www.e-sword.net and http://www.theword.gr . Both allow users to read the bible and like the scripture resource cd to mouse over see t...

Where to store X,Y data in MLS

I am interested in your workaround to store coordinates in the existing MLS fields. Did you consider using the legacy "Geo code" fields in tandem to store the two coordinates (Stake field = lat, Ward field = lon) or are they already occupied? The notion of keying all that into MLS seems t...

Getting pictures to the right size

Gimp, www. gimp [/b].org This is a great program that allows us to resize the pictures to the correct size. We have had success with creating ok looking pictures with 10 people in the frame, however it does tend to get a little hard to distinguish different people. However, if you are using it to re...

Mapping members

In the near future we'll also plot ward membership information. In our area many of the members live in rural areas and their addresses consist of route number, box number. Of course most geocoders can not locate these members. Of those members that do have a valid address we have a geocode rate of...

privacy issues and ward mapping

I believe it has been repeated quite a few times on this thread that the data should only be used for church purposes and not used for any other purpose. The question I would ask is for what purpose is the ward and/or stake being mapped out? If there is a reason, who is involved, how is the data bei...

Rural routes

This is a big improvement over the current meetinghouse locator, the membership will enjoy it. It did have issues with rural route / box addresses. Then again I am assuming they are using a standard geocoder to find addresses. Most rural routes will never geocode using standard fair street data. To...

Value of GIS - Source at CHQ - GIS options

Being able to use GIS to both map out a stakes boundaries and its members is indispensible while doing a reorganization of units/stakes. We recently went through several ward reorganizations and prepared for a stake reorganization. Being able to visually see where members lived in relation to the p...

reason for not releasing data??

The perpetrator would also have to know where members lived and if they were active. If they know this information already they probably do not need to know boundaries of the wards, ie if they have done their homework and cased out the location. I am not sure why they do not release it, where there ...

ward boundaries on file

It is really too bad that the brethern do not release this information. As you may know, church HQ has a GIS department that maps out boundaries for all the different units. If your stake president requests maps of your stake the department will send him maps of all the boundaries. However, the bret...

Meeting houses

Wow that is awesome Mark, way to go. As for the boundaries they can be used to find where you need to go to church but they can also be used in a variety of other ways by the members. Our stake recently went through a major reorganization of the wards and by geocoding the members locations and havin...
