PIX
Interesting. We were working fine for a couple of weeks and then we had a couple of down times last week. When I went to investigate the PIX VPN light was out. Even a reset would not bring our VPN light back up. I talked with the Global Support Desk (GSD) and they changed to a more direct routing to...

Agreed
Our stake presidency has been looking for a solution like this also. I like the concept of the church hosting the server and giving controls at the local level (e.g. lock access during Sacrament meeting, time out connections after a certain time, logs of who is using the internet and what sites, eas...

Up and running
Two and a half weeks ago I received a new dsl modem (they didn't charge because we were faithful customers) from the ISP and configured and installed it. I have not had any downtime since. I think the root cause in this building was a flaky modem. I think the PIX settings (only 10 lines) was contrib...

Cautiously optimisitic
I stopped at this building early this morning and the VPN tunnel light was on and the line was on. When I got home from work today I called the Q...st technical support line and explained the frequent internet outages. He ran some tests on the line. I asked about the "bridge tap." He did n...

One aspect of your situation you have not mentioned is the network configuration (network devices used). With the number of computers and WAPs connected to the network you must be using either a network switch, hub, or some combination of both. The four clerks computers in the building access the i...

Modem Setting
One other question I had.
The status screen on the old Modem says PPPoA - protocol. I don't know what the protocol is on the PIX. Could this be a conflict?
I don't even know what the difference between PPoA and PPPoE is....Is this something I should be worried about at all?

Internet Reliability saga continues
Hello again. Well since I last wrote I've done a couple of things to troubleshoot this issue. 1) I had the modem and router placed on a dedicated electrical circuit and added a surge protector. (thanks to our good facilities folks) 2) I found our PIX 501 was set for only 10 connections (DHCP maximum...

Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials was released today by Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_essentials/ It is targeted for home use. I read through the terms but didn't see whether it would be appropriate or not for these non-official family history rooms. Initial reviews of this product are go...
