Map location of members

I created an application that does this for our ward's emergency preparedness plan. It's not geared towards home teaching, but it might be helpful. It will only handle one ward at a time. Just export your membership data from MLS and import the file into ERDB: http://jay.askren.net/emergency/ Jay

More Ram

Running a Java program isn't the only reason for the computer needing more RAM. The new Desktop 5.5 has a firewall and other things built in that are also taking up computing resources. It's a lot to cram into 256 Megs of RAM. Also, the biggest thing are clerks have complained about is the time to t...

Guidelines to connect to wireless.

I believe FM is responsible for setting up the clerk computers so they can connect to the wireless. I believe you should have your stake clerk who deals with computer issues contact FM to get the computers connected to the wireless. Unfortunately, I don't think that will solve the problem you are as...

Where is Cebuano?

I served my mission in the Philippines speaking Cebuano. Cebuano is the fifth most spoken language in the church. I was wondering why there are no Cebuano resources on the church website. In the past I've listened to conference live in Cebuano and then later thought it was strange that the cebuano r...

Very true. In addition, our ward is using it more as a planning tool. We are using it to divide the ward into geographic zones. People within each zone would be able to help each other if there was a true disaster. The original intent of the software was to help create these zones so that the resour...

That is correct. The domain name is just to have an easy way to find the software. Data resides on the user's computer and does not go anywhere else unless the user manually moves it somewhere else. The only exception is that if the user chooses to use the map features, addresses are passed to a Yah...

Database

MySql and Postgres don't really fit this particular application since it is a desktop app, not a web app. It would make installation much more difficult for non techies. This appliation is precisely what embedded databases are made for.

h2database

h2database would be fine. Hsqldb just seemed to be the best thing I could find the last time I was looking for an embedded database. But that was like a year ago. I haven't tried h2database. I was also planning on using Hibernate as well. But I'm not picky about that either if there is something bet...

Emergency Preparedness Software

If someone wanted to help on this, that would be great since my time is somewhat limited. I haven't bothered finding a place to host this or deciding on a license since I'm the only one working on it. I asked around before but didn't find anyone with serious interest. For those who might be interest...
