Re: Why use MS Office instead of LibreOffice?
Just to stir the pot a little, an MS Office 365 Small Business subscription for every congregation in the church would cost about US$4.5 Million per year. That's US$150 per unit per year.

Re: remote access
The argument that there isn't a licensing agreement is a bit of a red herring since there are a number of Open Source VPN clients that could be used. There is however a legitimate issue of the added infrastructure and maintenance that establishing VPNs throughout the church would entail.

Re: FamilySearch Medical Pedigree
While I sympathize with your situation, this is not a good idea for the Church. Any medical information exposed in the system would automatically expose the Church to both the security rule and privacy rule of HIPAA in the United States. Any security breaches would expose the church to a boatload of...

Re: Question: Is Church working on Scout Rank/Advancement tr
Scouting rank advancement is so specialized by country that even though the church only authorizes scouting in a handful of nations, it would still be a poor investment of resources away from projects that support more universal church operations. There are at least two commercially available applic...

Re: Where are the apps for Windows 8?
With only a 3% market share for mobile devices, I don't think that IT management at the Church sees much value in devoting time to developing apps for Windows based mobile devices. If we want those kinds of tools, we will probably have to create them on our own.

Re: Login problem
This would be the wrong place to look. The Windows Mobile project didn't go anywhere. If it were an application issue, the LDS Tools for WIndows Phone would be the place to look. But, since there haven't been a software update since August and the update functionality failed in October, an applicati...

MLS 3.3.1 works quite well with Windows 7. Has there been any development in this issue? We just got a new computer at the end of January with a Windows 7 license, but it was downgraded to Windows XP (I was VERY disappointed). We are having several issues with the computer (i.e. no sound, and ATI pr...

Does anyone have experience with this new hardware as the wireless access point in a building? Where in the building is the best place to mount it to get full coverage of the building?

With my current professional workload and being the IT/AV lead for a Little Philmont that Pres. Beck is going to be at on Saturday, MLS 3.3b might get to me before I can get back to working on my XP mode project. Rather than running in XP mode, I would recommend that if you really need to use the ma...
