Would it be safe to assume that it isn't in our best interest as developers to create any tools that are web based because they would at some point require data to be stored within them? It appears that a tool such as this one that doesn't get the go ahead and actually gets shut down, is a good sign...

Genealogy Toolbar for Firefox and IE

The admin wouldn't have access to the DB.... the idea is that this is a centralized application that is only installed in one place. So you're saying, have a mandatory "Visited" and "Not Visited" option where the text could be edited and then the ability to add custom Visit-Type...

Realistically...

Nothing finds flaws in applications faster than saying, "This application is secure."

You could release a test db and access calls and just require a week of community testing before any applications could be developed. Then use the honor system.
