My own Email Notification System

We used to use the built-in notification system of the ward website for Calendar items, but have switched over to our own system, for two reasons: 1) To relieve the burden placed on Church servers to send out all of these emails. 2) To get enhanced functionality that our website members have clamore...

Ward Website Admins Software Stack

Administering the Ward Website is rather fill-in-the-blanks, but sometimes it can be frustrating if you rely solely on the tools provided. To help me with administering my ward website, I have created my own software stack. I wish it was all open-source, but alas I haven't really looked too hard for...

We use MLS Exports for a printed Directory - what do you use them for ?

My Bishopric is a little old fashioned. They like to have a paper version of the ward directory printed out on one sheet of paper and given out to the families in our ward. Apparently, not everyone has a computer, internet access, or a ward website account. But the majority do have telephones and kn...

MLS Tip of the Week is Great, pass it on...

Bringing back the MLS Tip of the Week is great. One thing I noticed recently, is that the two most recent "Tip of the Week" s we received related exactly with something we had made a mistake on. Does that mean that there is a pool of "Tip of the Weeks" s, and if there is a mistak...

LUWS stands for Local Unit Web Sites or basically the Ward and Stake Websites.

On a side note to the admins, a glossary of common abbreviations used by
Church Developers might be helpful to those of us who want to learn the lingo.

Rating Threads - can self-rate

Just noticed that someone who starts a thread
has access to rate it as well (those stars by
it indicating how good it is).

Don't know if you want to allow that or not.
Seems like it defeats the whole purpose of
rating threads if the original author can
artificially inflate its rating.

What is Desktop 5.5 ?

What is Desktop 5.5 ? Supposedly it will require 4 CDs from Church Headquarters. Supposedly it will involve Stake Technology Specialists to to format Hard Drives. Supposedly it will be required to be installed on all the computers in the Stake at the same time. Supposed it will be required wherever ...

Distributed Computing - Cease to be Idle

I read in some blog that the reported number of clerks office computers are something like 12,000. From what I've seen in most clerks offices is that computers are left on during church, a lot of that time running a screensaver. Letting their really fast processors idle away doing nothing productive...

Bolting on a BugTracker ?

If this site's goal is to foster a relationship between the community and Church Devolpment teams, are there any plans to one day bolt on a Bug Tracking System to this website, so members can submit bugs and see which ones the Developers are currently fixing ? Another use of a BugTracker would be to...

Technical Organizational Chart ?

I really like the section of the website that talks about each person, and what they do. Is there any way we could also see an organizational chart of the technical work being done at the church ? I don't know what you're allowed to release, but it would be interesting to see which department is wor...
