What level of translation?

There are huge differences between 'understanding' a different language, as many ex-missionaries do, to actually being able to communicate professionally in that language and then to be able to translate into that different language. The church seems to know this so they have that policy of transla...

Wiki LDSClerks.com Status 18 June 2008

Wiki LDSClerks Status: Editing seems to have found a slower, but steady rhythm. We continue to add new documents and make progress on getting more information into the wiki. The wiki is robust, useful and looks great and is very, very useful, thanks to the hard work of Alan Brown and Rob Smith this ...

The Earl, Mediawiki seemed like the solution to me, at first, but then when I tried to set it up for another project, I couldn't make it work. However, I recently discovered the Proofread Page extension for Mediawiki, which seems to solve the problem I saw. It gives the opportunity to put an image ...

Wiki now on track

In case anyone reads this thread and doesn't realize what has happened since, the wiki is up and operating at LDSClerks.com . We have resolved the problems with spam, and, thanks to Herculean efforts by Alan, Russell and Steve Cotrell, the wiki now has nearly 100 pages and a lot of activity. I think...

MediaWiki seems to be suited to this. You would either need some creative templates, or you could create a special wiki area and markup that would magically do the required replacement. A good starting place is: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Suruena/i18n_%28en%29 Unfortunately, while LDSOSS u...

I think that assuming this test goes well (which I am confident it will) we will create a solution and host it at the Church. Ideally I would love to get the community involved in creating the solution as well. However we do have some other software that we use in our existing translation departmen...

It is a great idea to create a list of Church lingo. I'll add it to my list of things to do. Tom Tom, I think you would find that many members of the Church would be very willing to participate on this also. It just seems like the translation department would already have such a list -- or at least...

There are literally tens of thousands of people in the Church who speak both English and Spanish well enough to translate. Just in my own ward here at BYU, we have had several completely bilingual people (Hispanic or part-Hispanic), not to mention dozens of English speakers who have served Spanish-...

My translation to Portuguese

Also are we only going to do spanish or additional languages like portuguese? I hope so. It seems like the obvious thing to do, given the number of Portuguese-speakers in the Church. Portuguese translation as best as I can do: 1st Quote: Troco do Nome do Especialista de Tecnologia da Estaca Este re...
