How does this interact with the Webcast software? Does it show up as another video source that sits in the middle between the capture card and the Webcast software, or does it require extra hardware to do Chroma-keying? VLC doesn't create a new V4L2/DirectShow device or anything fancy like that; it...

What font did you decide to use? The VLC plugin doesn't appear to give a choice of typeface (anyone know differently?); it uses a basic sans-serif typeface that is probably system-dependent. I'd like to see what the text-over-video looks like. The project page shows a picture of the screen (click f...

VLyriC: new software for displaying hymn lyrics on video at stake conference

When the computer for the setup I've been using since 2004 died a couple of weeks before conference and I had trouble recreating it, I decided it was time for a new, more universal, way of doing the display. I ended up writing VLyriC , which uses VLC as the display engine, and is a easier than a Pow...

Brad, you are thinking the same thing I was initially -- that Russell was talking about a special kind of FHC computer -- but he clarified it in a later post when he said "unit administrative computers", i.e. he was contrasting the FHC setup w/ what you'd find e.g. a ward clerk using. Russ...

I'd be interested in seeing the results of one that had been configured to be a admin computer. I'll test this week on some other machines (e.g. clerk). Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "configured to be a admin computer"? Our small FHC has a machine that has MLS installed an...

Normaly one sets up anti-virus on all machines in a network, so the server is responsible for checking itself. True -- as long as it's impossible for outsiders to connect to the network. A well-meaning clerk or a patron that says "here, just grab that off my laptop over the wi-fi" Attempt...

Sophos - UNC Flaw welcomes viruses

This may be of interest both to those with direct responsibility for supporting end-user computers, as well as the folks @ headquarters responsible for specifying/configuring security software for the same. While working on a machine from our FHC, I discovered a flaw in [our configuration of?] Sopho...

email broadcasts should use reply-to

When broadcast emails are sent through LUWS, there is no [obvious] indication to the recipient that it was sent through LUWS. The church's server essentially impersonates the sender , using their email address alone. Aside from the potential confusion, it also causes the emails to be rejected by som...

100 address limit on email confirmations

When a broadcast email is sent out through LUWS, the sender receives a confirmation email listing the addresses it was sent to. It only lists 100 addresses. How confident are we that the cap is only on the feedback email, and not on the total emails actually sent? It would be nice to remove this lim...
