Same problem every January!

Our ward has had about the same problem every year since adopting MLS. Each year we blow the classes away and recreate them. The rules always work, pulling the correct children into each class. Life is good until Jan 1st. At that point, 80% of the kids disappear from classes. Those remaining (who, c...

Info for 2008 Xmas Broadcast?

I lost the packet for the First Presidency's Christmas Devotional that was broadcast last night. The last few have been posted in the "Letters" section of this site, but alas, nothing since October conference. Could someone give me the "Item Number" of the broadcast so I can appr...

Why SAP?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that SAP ever needs to enter the picture. SAP is a standard for NTSC/RF broadcasts, and if you stay away from RF (i.e. separate audio/video) you're okay. The DVB streams from the church encode two languages on each fully-separated stereo audi...

Do you have Sprint? I've seen prices in the $50/month range for that. Unfortunately, the only provider with coverage out there was the Nextel IDEN network; PCS was useless. This was a couple of years ago, so things might have changed. piggybacking on the existing MLS connection would put the ward u...

Dial-up?

I know everyone (including me) likes the speed and convenience of dedicated internet access, but I can see many cases where it's difficult to justify that expense, yet having any access would be very valuable. On our ward's machine, I've always had a dial-up networking connection defined that I coul...

my $.02

Since my stake president is considering this question, I've been trying to work on a list today. Your "quite a bit of money to keep a couple of people happy" comment resonated with me; while I have been accused of not being able to survive more than 2 minutes away from technology, I have n...

We did it and it worked well. We had a similar problem; our access point in the stake offices at one end of the building didn't cover much. Someone ran out and bought a $100 repeater (Linksys Expander, IIRC) without technical authorization, and it didn't work well (didn't work at all with encryption...

The Wegener receivers do support IP tunneled through DDB MPE at up to 10Mbps (or 15Mbps with no video), but of course, as you say, that's downlink only. Would be a mighty efficient way to push out MLS updates though! :-)

Tom's 80x57 avatar would look great with a white "EN" (to indicate "English") in the upper left corner. :-)
