The advice is good, but I would note that it's actually required to connect each member donor record with a membership record before you submit the Tithing Declaration Report. If I understand your post properly, there is only one donor record, and it is under the name John Doe, but has no membershi...

Resolving Donation Names

A member moved into the ward mid year and made a tithing donation but his membership was not yet here. He filled out the slip “John Doe”. We entered that into the computer. He made other donations throughout the year under that name. At some point his membership came in but I'm not sure ...

Ward Budgets - What if not balanced?

In the last couple of years our ward has been +/- 5% of our allotted budget. Just curious who makes up the shortfall or what happens to the surplus? Is it balanced within the stake so as long as the stake balances it is okay? Are there any incentives (rewards) for being well under budget or punishme...

Printing Statements in Nov. for Tithing Settlement

I have done statements for ward tithing settlement in Nov. for the last two years as per stake's request in Canada and now getting ready for round three. The down side is, that by time most people come in to see the bishop, the statement is so outdated they want a new one anyways. Often they don't p...

You could just print a year-to-date detailed donation statement like at tithing settlement. You'd have to print one for the prior year too if the missionary is in year two. The donor would have to compare that to the months served times the monthly payment. {Maybe easier to just cross the names out}...

I can't see any activity in the past 5 years for these categories. We have not used them in 2009 either. You ask are they zero balance? I thought budget balances did not carry forward from year to year so even if we did use one particular category in 2008, would it not have a zero balance in 2009 if...

Deleting Budget Categories

I tried deleting some budget headings but it said they were in use. These were headings for events that were one-time-only that happened long ago. I checked back for the last 5 years and there were no entries in or out in these categories and there were no sub categories. Why can I not get rid of th...

Thank you for that explanation. It may have been other issues that caused me to not balance at the time. It was too long ago to remember.

What prompted this question is that my predecessor in finance (before fall 2007) used to track Bishop's storehouse by doing Expenses - Not a Check- Payee Bishop's Storehouse - Purpose- Assistance Food- Category Fast Offering Food - with the amount. He could then enter the recipient's name. He says i...
