Re: Clearwire, et al

As an FYI, we have a building that uses HughesNet. It hasn't been the most reliable. Clerks seem to be able to transmit when they need, but the FHC is pretty slow.

Re: Hard wire to pulpit

Stake President to FM group. If that fails, then Stake President to Area Authority. Be sure to show documentation provided by church to tech community. Our Stake's experience in the past has been that when the SP has called the FM Area Manager (for our area) at CHQ, he usually gets what he needs. N...

Re: Max IP Addresses

Wireless is by definition 'shared bandwidth'. Even enterprise grade WAPs get overloaded between 20-30 users. If you increase the size of the DHCP scope, yes you may be able to avoid the issue of people not being able to pull a DHCP address. Although shortening the lease to between 1-2 hours will hel...

Re: External Antenna for Cisco 881w Firewall

This looks like a nice solution. The only downfall is that CDW has it listed for $179. For another $100 you could get another 1041n instead :( If it were < $100 I would probably buy it...

If I understand right... it sounds like your trying to use the PoE Injector as a makeshift media extender / repeater. I'm not sure it will do the job you want, but if you have an extra one you could try. PoE devices do not send power down the wire all the time. They use a low voltage "signature dete...

We have one is our stake as well. The Stake Clerk manages it and mostly uses it with the projector to display PPTs as well as other documents during meetings. It does make you wonder as to how 'recent' the advice was. 5-10 years ago the cost of laptops was significantly higher (now you can get a low...

Many of the new copiers provided in meetinghouse materials centers are network print capable. This capability can be enabled through the current wireless network. AirPrint is an 'Apple' feature and is not the same as "printing over the network." It allows for printing directly from iOS devices to a...

If nothing else, JohnShaw's experiment is a great proof of concept of the value of a local cache. A permanent media cache appliance might allow the church to push all youtube content down for use as well?
