Re: Church Webcasts using YouTube Live Streams

Anyone else had the experience that when you stop the stream for the Sacrament that YouTube redirects your viewers to other religious videos on YouTube (not from our church)? We did during our first video test streams a few weeks ago, and while it might be somewhat amusing for a test, it's not idea...

Automating OBS with the Webcast Portal

Would you like to have a computer at each building with OBS Studio that self-configures and then automatically starts streaming when your scheduled event begins, then shuts down when the event ends? The script below is at the core of our automation efforts and substantially reduces the weekly setup...

Re: PTZ Visca Control with USB Joystick

It's still very much a work in progress, but runs great (Golang) on a Raspberry Pi, even an older model 2 or 3. It's here and I'll try to add some additional documentation and background. With remote streaming, I'd like to add some "preset" functions (press a button to go to a wide shot, a...

Re: Church Webcasts using OBS

Not sure if there is enough interest to justify the effort to document what I've built, but I've created a Python script that queries the XML configuration file (normally used by a Teradek encoder to get its settings), update the configuration files for OBS studio, and then when a new URL becomes av...

Re: Reliable broadcasting for Stake Conference - how to

They just released a new "ATEM Mini Pro" that includes a stack of new features for $600, including direct hardware streaming from the switcher itself and direct-to-USB disk recording. For less than the cost of a VidiU box, you get a nice 4-input video switcher and the streaming converter, ...

Re: Broadcasting Sunday School

If you are willing to go with audio only (no video), the bitrate requirements for an audio stream are about 1-2% of the video rate. I've used Icecast very successfully even with WiFi active in the building (buffering easily handles the hiccups). See this post for a high-level view of the method. htt...

Re: Broadcasting Sacrament w/o Ordinance-CoVid-19

On the off chance that the directive ends up moving us toward audio streaming to help protect the vulnerable (and allow the ill to remain isolated): Icecast works wonderfully for this purpose. While I set it up on another server I already had access to, I found this article that provides a nice guid...

Re: Ready to smash the Teradek Vidiu; alternatives?

I'll give another big +1 for OBS Studio on a decent laptop. Works great through the Church servers and YouTube (and other streaming sites for that matter). Keep the bit rate in the range of 2 Mbps for the Church servers or they tend to break.

Re: Broadcasting Sacrament w/o Ordinance-CoVid-19

Note that the policy in 35.4.15 prohibits Photography, Video recording, and broadcasting, but audio recording and streaming are not prohibited (in fact, the church still installs hook-ups specifically designed to allow recording of meetings in the chapel and installs assistive listening transmitters...

Re: Reliable broadcasting for Stake Conference - how to

A huge +1 for the ATEM Mini from Blackmagic Design. I own one of the (much larger $3000) 8-input ATEM 4k switchers and have used it with excellent results for several stake conferences, but I just purchased an ATEM Mini for smaller/simpler shoots and in fact, for most stake conferences it is perfect...
