non-conforming Place names

9 Morgan, Ohio, United States - that is a serious problem when I want only Morgan County, NOT Morgan townships. Has to force "-, Morgan, Ohio, United States" to make it clear that it is a county, with town/township/village/city NOT known. The other one - nonconforming place names. Norfolkshire is no...

Problems cropping up

Nice to have latest version released but I encountered several major problems, plus the chilling call from Florida. In case of at least Orlando Temple district, the members who entered NEW information before March 3rd are finding their entries corrupted so bad. They can't edit them. It is as if some...

I really believe in consistency between products. With the new FamilySearch, the country is always shown to add clarity and remove ambiguity. However, FHLC currently does not show the country, but that is an old product. Will the FHLC be updated? When I think of a newbie searching . . . Would they ...

Townships vary widely also in the governmental structure and size. In Michigan, many townships developed into larger cities with significant record collections from the township period. Other townships shared the 'Township Hall' with several others, and that was in the back of somebody's house for ...

How should we recommend users name townships in article titles? Which form should they use? ⋅ Wayne, New Jersey ⋅ Wayne Township, New Jersey  The problem? There are functioning Townships still in existence. Like Egg Harbor Twp in New Jersey and it is still used for pos...

Agreed. At best, I think many 'historical' place articles would end up being disambiguation-style pages that would point to the current location of records. In the case of Prussia, it might be a map with an overlay of modern boundaries. If it is incorrect of me to assume that the records would be k...

When an article about a place covers a time period within which the place's name changed, and one of those names is in use today, should the title have the modern or historical name for the place? It has been proposed that we lean in favor of the modern version of the name, and that if faced with a...

What about: Montgomery (County), Maryland Oklahoma (County), Oklahoma Salt Lake (County), Utah Utah (County), Utah North Slope (Borough), Alaska If I were a beginning genealogist, the parentheses might clue me in that I don't need to include the word "County" in my place name (i.e. Oklahoma City, O...

Maybe the search engine could be changed to find "Saint George, Washington, Utah" when someone searchs for "Saint George, Utah" or even "St. George, Utah" (wait, it that example belong in the abbreviation thread?).[/quote] in Wikipedia, St. is standard and if somebody type Saint George, it automatic...

Probate districts vs town probate districts

. And we'll have to deal with probate districts in Vermont and Connecticut, as well. Townships (see comments on that thread) in New York are a little like the Towns of New England, in that there is a system of Township Historians in place in that state, and they compile records of genealogical inter...
