Re: Live Broadcast

Is it possible to watch a live church broadcast, such as general conf, on an Android tablet? I've tried and get an "operation prohibited" message. Hard to unpack that question that without knowing more: What app were you trying to use? Was it a browser, or a dedicated app? What church dis...

Re: Changing which organization home teaches an individual

It's not a design flaw. I disagree. This could use more clarification. I confirmed with another developer that this was the design of the system and how it is supposed to operate. You may disagree with the original designer on how it should operate, but it is operating as designed. I wasn't there a...

Re: Changing which organization home teaches an individual

It's not a design flaw. I disagree. The MLS home teaching structure and workflow reflects fundamentally poor software design, which does not align with the actual use cases of most local units. (The predecessor system, the old DOS-based MIS, was much better in this regard. It tracked each step of t...

Re: Changing which organization home teaches an individual

There is no way of assigning a household to a specific quorum except by assigning home teachers. Yes, this is a longstanding design flaw in MLS . It now appears that it will never be fixed. I do hope that if and when home teaching data is migrated online, this design mistake will be corrected in th...

Re: HT data from home

Looking for project info to enter HT data from home. I have searched, didn't find what I was looking for. Mostly found people pointing out that have one computer in the clerks office makes it difficult for all those who want to use it. I am looking for any proposed solutions on the horizon that wou...

Re: Recording releases and new callings...

In my opinion callings are "membership related" because MLS membership data includes this information. That does not necessarily apply to everything else that occurs in Sacrament Meeting, such as speakers. Taken to an extreme, even the names of members, such as in a list of speakers, coul...

Re: Recording releases and new callings...

Does storing calling information on the cloud violate that policy since callings are announced in sacrament and basically public knowledge? I guess if it says "any membership-related data" then it probably is. We would have to go back to the binder. I think you answered your own question....

Re: Recording releases and new callings...

Something like a binder is a good idea. What we do is use a spreadsheet in Google Docs, which has an app members of the bishopric can download to their mobile devices. Everybody can update it and I use that to then update MLS. Using Google Docs (Google Drive) would certainly be efficient. But I fea...

Re: MLS clean up checklist

If you are inheriting a membership roster that has not had a lot of proactive attention from your predecessors, very likely there will be households on the list with bad addresses. The best way to get a scrubbed baseline is to do a mailing to the whole ward, which can identify three classes of error...

Re: Recording releases and new callings...

Now, when I was an assistant clerk, the ward clerk had me maintain the callings/releases. It was a challenge because I was not at the bishopric meetings and our bishopric (including the ward clerk) at the time also had the habit of forgetting to tell me. Sometimes I was able to pay attention during...
