Re: dban
An ISO file is basically just a ZIP file, but the ISO extension is recognized by certain programs as a disk image, not just a compressed group of files. When you just copy the ISO file to a disk, it shows up to everything as a single file. When you burn the ISO's *image* to a disk, it writes the con...

Re: dban
(If someone created your "DBAN" disk by just copying the .iso image file as a file, that would not create a bootable disk, just a copy of the file on the CD.) I wonder if RossEvans is right. Did you copy the ISO file to the DVD or copy the ISO *image* to the DVD? I like to use a free app ...

After F12 and selecting the drive, did it ask you to "press any key to boot from cd..."?

Re: Sophos not activated
When you say it isn't activated, what does you mean? There is no activation process for Sophos. It should be functional as soon as it's installed. Sometimes when you install Sophos, you will see an error about the firewall and the icon will appear with red to indicate something isn't working right. ...

Re: Re-image OS/upgrade to windows 7
I think the main concern is security issues with running a XP machine much past April 2014. Understood. As I mentioned earlier, we are discussing things internally and with Microsoft to determine the best plan. We still have almost a year until XP support goes away, so there's no rush to do anythin...

Re: Re-image OS/upgrade to windows 7
Maybe replacement can come a little sooner. It's worth checking. I should also stress that there is nothing wrong with Windows XP. It has been a great OS for us, and it will continue to do what it needs to do which is facilitate the use of MLS. If a machine has other issues, and loading a fresh ima...

Re: Re-image OS/upgrade to windows 7
I have machines coming due for replacement at the end of this year that have Vista stickers, but came loaded with XP. If ktchugg's machine has a XP sticker, I'll be surprised. Good point. I should clarify my statement slightly. When we buy computers, they include a sticker for the latest OS, but we...

Re: Re-image OS/upgrade to windows 7
I've worked on machines with a similar problem (blue screens related to a video driver), and reloading the machine fixed the issue. I tried a number of things first like updating drivers, installing updates, etc., but nothing seemed to work. It sounds like the sticker on the machine is for Windows X...

Re: Configure New Clerk Computers?
Thanks for your participation in the forum. Any chance of obtaining a specific PC model's image should an STS have to replace (or re-image) a hard drive? Yes, we have the ability to send image disks should a machine need to be re-imaged. I have the following images: Windows XP for the Dell 740 and ...
