Sources in nFS

I haven't seen much discussion about adding sources to nFS, so I thought I would share my experience in uploading some of my source information via a GEDCOM from PAF just to see what would happen. I have tried to document my research using the process available in PAF, and in the case of sources on ...

Combining records and separating out errors.

I agree with some of Rick Parker's comments. I spent more than a week trying to make sense out of my PA Quaker Moores and Millers which were all scrambled because of loops within loops. Before the 80 record limitation, I separated records from 5 different generations until I identified the problem. ...

Why are so many duplicate ordinances performed?

I have additional insight into your suggestion. My experience has been that LDS genealogists fall into 2 camps - those who do research into records, and those who look for research someone else has alreaady done to copy and submit to the temple, i.e. books, internet submissions etc. Those in the sec...

Minimizing paper waste when printing temple cards.

Why not change the size of the temple cards to fit the paper - six to a page. Is there something sacred about the size that is now being used?

Can the data from the old extraction program be used in the indexing project?

I would like to know if it would be possible to use the data extracted during the old extraction program, rather that indexing the same films again. Many of those extracted films are birth, christening and marriage records which I consider the backbone of genealogy. If those could be put on line in ...

Prioritizing names in new FamilySearch

I think we are trying to make this too complicated. Why not allow users to select the names dates and places they think are most correct. Those of us who have done research should know which is correct. The number of selections could be tabulated and the option with the most votes rises to the top. ...

if you want to see what has been done in the indexing project and is available to view, check out http://www.familysearchlabs.org/. You have to register, but it shows you how much of the record set is now online, and in many cases, is already connected to images.

I have found that the most difficult problem with the Julian / Gregorian calendar is with Quaker records. The Quakers recorded their dates as 1st month 15th day 1742 etc. So then the question is not only with which year to record for January or February or March, but with every month, since under th...

Use of double dates in converting Julian to Gregorian Calendar

Both PAF and the new FamilySearch allow the use of slash marks in dates in those databases. The PAF 5 Users Guide says "If you are not sure on what day or during what year an event occurred, type a slash mark (/) between the two days or years... Personal Ancestral File accepts dates from the Gregori...

Pack1970 mentioned that the church did the checking for duplication prior to 1991. He did not mention that when names were submitted, they were ALL sent to Salt Lake and it took many months before the submitter heard bach that their names had been cleared for ordinances. In 1991, TempleReady was int...
