Could it be something in the way his own computer is handling the number sign? My computer thinks it is smarter than I am, and tries to keep me from doing things that might hurt myself.aebrown wrote:What possible connection could there be between the Lesson Schedules application and this phpBB-based LDSTech Forum?

Yeah but:larq wrote:But I can:
1) I could't quote your post.
2) You posted using the URL function - what about if you posted the URL as raw text?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Possibly none. But I have shown that there is something going on in the forum, so he's not imagining that.aebrown wrote:What possible connection could there be between the Lesson Schedules application and this phpBB-based LDSTech Forum?
OTOH, there might be a firewall or something that gets upset about certain things - perhaps trying to stop some kind of "injection" attack where strange things are posted in text fields.

Yeah, but - aren't you coming in via the church's 10.x.x.x. network? I'm coming in via public Internet. That makes me think this is a firewall/security issue.larq wrote:But I can:

Re: Lesson URLs cannot have a '#' character
No one ever said that he's imagining that. But all you've established is that you see similar issues. I'm not yet ready to conclude that there's any problem with the forum, given that I can post that URL with both my administrator and "sock puppet" accounts.russellhltn wrote:Possibly none. I suppose that's possible. At this point our data is limited. We have two successes and two failures.russellhltn wrote:OTOH, there might be a firewall or something that gets upset about certain things - perhaps trying to stop some kind of "injection" attack where strange things are posted in text fields.
But I just thought of one more thing, which I can't test right now. The two successes were recorded by people on the Church network; the two failures were presumably not. Could be a coincidence, but perhaps not.

The "page" is get back is:
That's it. Looks to me to be coming from a network device, not a regular server.
Code: Select all
<html><body><center><h1><b>The website is temporarily down.</b></h1><i>Please try again later.</i></center></body></html>

I'm an assistant ward clerk, so I have full administrative rights.russellhltn wrote:Interesting. I see two things to look at to see why the different experience. First, all the ones who have been successful are all admins. Mevans, what level of rights do you have?
Second, could it be some interaction with the type of class/manual/type of lesson?
I've only been trying the URL to sharing time that I listed. I've tried all the various class types that let me add a URL.

Re: Lesson URLs cannot have a '#' character
My reply above was longer, but I got the "This website is temporarily down" message with a longer message. It didn't seem to be related to offending characters, either.

Re: Lesson URLs cannot have a '#' character
When I'm not connected to the Church network, I can post the above URL.
But I can't post anything with the hash character -- not even in the body of the text like trying to refer to a number 10 envelope.
So it's seeming to have nothing to do with URLs per se; I'm guessing it is something about doing an HTTP Post where a hash character is in the content when you're not on the Church network, but posting to certain Church servers.
