Wiping old computers

#1

Post by jaybobx »

Familyserach recently sent replacement computers for our FHC. The local FM group advised that the old machines need to be wiped clean before they take them for disposal. They indicated that there is a standard we should follow. Does anyone know where I can get information about the disposal of Church assets?

This help center article describes how to wipe an administrative computer disk drive: https://www.lds.org/help/support/erasin ... e?lang=eng

I expect the same process would be acceptable for a FHC computer.

That process looks pretty strange. Are they trying to preserve the OS?

There are a number of free utilities that will do that. The end result will be something like "no OS found".

If the FHC computer has a SSD, you'll need something that will wipe SSDs properly.
