I apologize immediately if this has already been discussed and the issue common knowledge, but I would like to see MLS integrated into the unit web sites. It would wonderful to be able to maintain this information from home. What are the chances of something like this happening?

If not, are there chances of reducing the duplication of effort in issues such as preferred names and so on?

Planning is currently underway about V2 of the LUWS (Local Unit Web Sites). It is too early to be able to tell what features it will or will not have. However all of this input is being considered.

It's it's to support the Stake Technology Specialist, or those acting in that calling. Details are handed out on a "as-needed" basis. No, it's not a web-enabled version of MLS.

Oh, and integration of membership records with genealogical data would be nice, too, with proper privacy constraints of course. Then one log on gets you into the ward with instant links into FamilySearch and so on. With the right security enforced, it could all be a really nice unified system. And of course, it would be nice to allow people who aren't members of the Church still get into FamilySearch, but a unified user database could still be doable. Just a matter of authentication and roles (and where proper, the tying of users to actual people in the system).

But again, thanks for the info, and no need to do everything all at once.

Yeah, to be nice about it, it was a head scratching moment when I realized that both FS and LUWS were asking for the same information to validate my membership but were two different login domains.

On this subject, it would also be nice to log into the Church web site and have a link to my pedigree chart. Also with nice hints showing where the nearest gaps are in my family history (or unfinished ordinances) and hints of how to get started researching or finishing the ordinances. This is just another example of the unified system I like to imagine.

What you propose may be closer to reality than you think. See the threads in the FamilySearch/PAF area of the forums to see more. As it is, the FCHD is beta testing this 'family tree' software right now with 3,000 beta testers.

You will log on and see your records (likely in my opinion just the genealogy data from them), then you will build your tree from there. Eventually you will hook into where others have done work on your lines. There are alot of things being said about what this may or may not have, but your basic premise is probably that close to reality, at least on 'new FamilySearch'.

Thanks for the info, and I guess I did stray in the specifics from my original topic. (Although in the general sense, I've kept to the "unified system" theme.)
