If the machine is older than 5 years you should be able to get it replaced by your facilities representative. Also, you should be able to add memory to it by policy if the stake is willing to pay for it. If streetp has any specific questions, you can send me an email and I may be able to anser some of them offline.

If it is possible to boot from a CD, there are live-demo-CD Linux versions that don't require installation to the hard disk, and there are utilities for Linux that can divulge a lot of details about system hardware including RAM. I don't know for sure whether you can get enough detail to uniquely specify a valid replacement DIMM, but it should at least be able to identify the motherboard model and/or chipset. With only 128MB of RAM at present, I would recommend booting the live-CD Linux to runlevel 3 to avoid RAM-hungry KDE or Gnome. (A live-CD needs more RAM than a regular installed version, because it uses some RAM to imitate temporary disk.)

Run CPU-Z, it will tell you what hardware you have.

Sorry for not posting recently, I've been fighting our Area office, they've finally realised after 4 plus weeks of not being able to do a send/receive that we have a problem..... our Bishop finally called the Area Office and I don't know what he said but it worked, we have been told that we have a nice new computer on the way..... though knowing how our Area Office works, we'll get it in time for Christmas - maybe.

Well at least you'll get a new computer, though the lack of information from the ward might expedite your new computer hopefully.
