Saved forms and downloaded financial statements are stored in the database, so if you use some other means (besides the MLS backup feature) to backup the Units\<unit number>\mlsData folder, you'll get everything for that unit.

Forms in the data directory

Post by atticusewig »

From my previous experience,

Saved Forms are not in the Units directory, but
rather the /MLS/data/[unitnumber] directory. If someone
wants to try this out with live data, go ahead and
violate church policy. I, however, am already on very
thin ice with my Stake Technology Specialist.

Maybe CHQ will eventually be able to be more selective.

Monthly, just back-up what is needed,
but allow Local Units to keep more extensive back-up copies.

Just a thought, not a sermon.

That's correct (my previous post was off the top of my head, with no research). Thanks for the correction.

So to save a complete backup for MLS 3.2, you would need to save the MLS\data\<unit number> folder and then either a backup file from File>Backup or the MLS\Units\<unit number>\mlsData folders.

Thanks you guys for this post. I am a new financial clerk and noticed the file size difference. I thought I was doing something wrong.

2 questions though, when a backup is run (either manually or automatically)
1. Do both financial and membership records get updated
2. How do I know the backup has completed (I was expecting a message similar to the one that tells me the send/receive has completed)

Thanks,
Jim

A backup is always a full backup of the MLS database. So both financial and membership records get saved in the backup (but not saved forms, as of MLS 3.2).

There is a progress dialog that appears and shows an animated progress bar while the backup is being made. Once the backup is done, the progress dialog goes away. That is your feedback that the backup is done.
