Flag membership record to contact previous bishop

#1

Post by jla59 »

A question came up on how to flag membership records to contact previous bishop. We are familiar on how to do it when we push records out but needed to be able to do this on a few records that might be pulled. I searched the MLS wiki and could not find anything.

There is no way to put a note on records just in case they get moved out. One possible way to guarantee any new bishop would contact the bishop is to put a Move restriction on the record, but that's a much bigger step than just putting a note on the record -- it actually prevents the record from being moved (but does initiate some contact, so it might fit your need).
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

This is a feature we've been asking for since MIS came out about 20 years ago.

We have on occasion also had this problem. We had a member who was going through some disiciplinary matters that moved on us without telling us where they were moving. The only thing we could think to do when his records left was to request them back and see what the "previous ward" was, flag the record and send them back. Plus, then I also had the ward name so I could look up the bishop and call him.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of requesting it back and then resending it .

It is probably not something you should do on a "routine" basis, but in our case, we thiought it was urgent enough that the bishop receive some vital information.

I imagine you could also contact the Church's membership department and find out what ward the records went to and then call the bishop. That is probably the way they would like you to handle it.

But hey: Sometimes you work the system you are given. ;)
