Non-member Husband's Birthdate Disappearing From Wife's Record

I have had many issues over the years dealing with non-member husbands in MLS. Most I have been able to work through and resolve, but I don't have a solution for this one yet.
After adding a non-member husband to a household from the member wife's record (husband's birthdate and marraige info all complete on wife's record), if I edit the husband's non-member record to change the preferred name so his middle name does not show on ward directories, the husband's birthdate is deleted from from the wife's record.
This is not peculiar to any one record. It happens everytime! I know MLS is protective of non-memeber privacy information, but I don't see any logical reason why this should happen.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
