Plastic strips on the bottom of tithing deposit bags

#1

Post by johnwbennett »

When we prepare tithing/donations to take to the bank, we tear off the perforated plastic strip at the bottom of the plastic donation bags and retain those strips for our records. When the time comes to destroy the old records, putting the plastic strips through the paper shredder would not be an option because the plastic just catches in the gears and doesn't shred like the paper does, and it's a pain to get out. Is my only choice to use sharp scissors to cut up those plastic strips, or is it not actually necessary to destroy them after all? There are only several numbers on each strip, as well as the date and total amount of donation, and the initials of the two brethren preparing the deposit. Is that information not confidential enough to require shredding?

You should keep your copy of the deposit slip with the other items in the deposit for the required financial retention period.
