Some record numbers have letters like "A" attached. Why and how ?

Quite normal. Can’t remember the exact reason, but I have an “A” at the end of my MRN.

The last digit of your membership record number is a check digit that insures the number is being typed correctly. Usually it is 0 to 9, but occasionally the formula requires an A.

This used to be a pain because if you typed a lowercase "a" the MRN would not work. I think that has been changed in must places. But the uppercase "A" should always work where that is the "digit" to be used..

The A probably equals the number 10 in check digit land.
