Hmmm. With my current calling as Branch President, when I log onto store.churchofjesuschrist.org, I can order "Book 2 Recommend for Living Ordinances" (however, it does state "Availability: Available for delivery after Nov 30, 2019"). Same thing for "Book 1 Temple Recommend".

Once I used another unit's Temple Recommend book (long story), and it seemed to have worked fine. I don't know if this is officially ok, but you might consider that while waiting for the new recommend book to arrive, if it's a time issue. And since it's very easy to overlook (oops, that's the last page of recommends in the book, now what?), a reminder to all Bishops in your Stake to proactively order new books, is never a bad idea.

I don't have any special knowledge, but I wonder if the books are unavailable while they are updated to include the new recommend questions. That's just a guess, though.

As ward clerk, I keep a spare of each book in the locked file cabinet in the clerk's office (we have 2 binders and 2 active sets for our ward, stored in a different drawer in the locked file cabinet). When one runs out, I pull my spare and order another spare. Our bishopric counselors are good to tell me when they pull the spare if I am not available at the time.

FWIW, I do the same with printer cartridges and sacrament cups. I'm a quality engineer and this gives me a "pull signal" of when to order while providing a cushion in our supplies (I don't like the stress when we find out on Sunday Morning we used the last of the sacrament cups last week and no one bothered to tell me...).

This will usually work if you borrow from another unit in the same stake. Otherwise, the stake may have trouble activating the recommend.

Adding to this topic, we've been guided by our Stake President to make sure we're using the most current books, any easy way to tell what edition or version we have?

The entire Temple Recommend book issue has caused quite the mess in our YSA Stake with many living ordinances taking place in December and 25 of those from one ward.
1. Bishops could not get recommend books (back ordered pretty much since conference)
2. Those who were able to get books, they were not assigned to the unit upon shipping so we could not activate the recommends at the Stake Level.
4. Bishops who borrowed several sheets of recommends from other wards, we could not activate those at the Stake level.
5. No sense of urgency at HQ to solve the problem or help us get the books/ recommends assigned/activated in a timely manner. All GSC could do was file a ticket for some other level to take care of and no ability to escalate since endowments and weddings were happening in a few days. (GSC rep yesterday said he would put a note to try to get it activated quicker) . Have not heard it it happened. Couple went to Temple today.

It appears that the Temple can deal with some of these cases except when the recommend comes from a book that has not been assigned to a unit.

Sigh... It has been a crazy two weeks in December because of this issue.
