Chart of Features Access by Calling?

#1

Post by tybodily »

Does anyone know if there is a chart of features that an individual in the ward can have when they access the church website or LDS tools based on the calling they have?

For example, the Bishopric would like to call someone in the ward to, weekly, be in charge of putting birthdays on the sacrament meeting program. This feature to view birthdays is not available to her in LDS tools or when she logs into the church website.

Another example, the Bishopric wants to call someone to update all of the pictures of ward members in LDS tools. Only certain individuals have access to this feature but they're not sure which ones they are.

I was hoping someone may be able to direct me to a place where you can see a chart of access to features an individual holds when they are serving in specific callings?? Much help or direction would be greatly appreciated

The closest thing is the LCR Access Control Access Table

I'd think you'd have to be a clerk or a part of the Ward Council such as a EQ or RS secretary. However, in this day of privacy and identity theft, I'm not sure as this is a good idea. Members are allowed to "hide" from non-leaders by setting their directory privacy to "leaders only". They may not appreciate having their birthdays listed in a program that passed out to every one who walks in the door. A quick web search turned up this: HR Tip: Disclosing employees' birthdays. While not necessarily applicable to a church, I think it does show the current legal environment.

At one time, a ward website admin could do that. But apparently, they no longer can. I think they'd have to be a clerk. Not only is that gender-limiting and requires stake approval, but it grants far too many rights. I don't know the logic behind that one. The best I can suggest is to have someone take the photos and forward them to a clerk for uploading.

Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) has a table under the menu item Other > Access Table which gives the rights by calling to different features of LCR. However, there is no such resource for other church tools. In some cases there are help pages that list the rights but some of them (particularly for the Directory) are out of date and no longer apply. I know of no such table or help page for Member Tools although generally if you can see something on LCR you can also see it in Member Tools if it's available there at all.

Custom callings of any sort do not provide any rights to any church system. And in most cases the callings that provide rights can't be given just to provide rights because either the calling must be stake approved (like a clerk calling) or there can only be one person in the calling (like the bishopric or organization presidencies).

There is a calling called Website Administrator which used to provide useful right but all of those rights have disappeared (either because the associated tool was removed or it was rewritten and the new version doesn't provide rights anymore).

If all the rights have disappeared for Ward Website Administrator than it would be ok for wards to release website administrators and take it off the list of callings? Sounds like its an obsolete calling now. Miss being able to put in member photos. I would often go around with my camera and take photos and post. Not possible any more.

Oh I see that Ward Website Administrator is now a Ward Calender Administrator per TOOLS ON LDS.ORG/CALENDAR

Looks like all Ward Website Administrator can do is manage calendars. No other functions available as previously had.

Who Are Ward Calendar Administrators?
Bishoprics
Ward executive secretaries
Ward clerks and assistant clerks
Ward website administrators

The calling is still a good way to give someone the ability to administer the calendars without needing to grant extensively greater permissions that members of bishoprics and their clerks have and a calendar manager would not need.

The same could be accomplished by adding them "by name" as a admin in the calendar system.

We are all new Bishopric of a YSA ward. We know NONE of the members.
1. Is there a chart that has the ability to tie pictures to members and their callings?

2. Most do not have photos in their LDS Tools. Can we as the Bishopric take and upload pictures to the LDS Tools app?
If so, how?

You'd need their permission. The photo would be available to everyone in the ward.

I believe you can do it in the app, and/or in LCR. However, the system is acting up at the moment, so you'll have to wait until it's fixed.

If a photo is uploaded to the tools app will it also show up on the churchofjesuschrist.org site for that particular ward?
