Why does Lds login page display when I try to use gmail

Church Account is the primary user account (user name and password) for accessing online Church resources. Church Account was formerly known as LDS Account. This forum is a space to discuss all things related to Church Accounts (registration, account recovery, user experience, vulnerabilities, etc.).

Another thing you could try is clearing the cache/cookies in your browser.

Something to try: Go ahead and log in to your gmail account on that page.

It's just a "cover page". Both accounts are gmail.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

We never heard back if/how it was resolved.

All I can suggest is trying the steps suggested in the thread.
