Linked accounts

I have a member whose account is linked to her husband's, how do I unlink them? He is now living in a retirement home, she still lives at home, so their membership records are in two different places. She wants to have her own LDS account while her husband has his own account, any advice?

There is no such thing as linked Church Accounts. It sounds like she is probably using his account. She just needs to create her own account and enter her MRN when she creates it.

However, it's quite possible that she may have an account already linked to her membership number (an old Family Search or Mormon.org account for instance). In that case she would get an error when trying to create a new account with her membership number. She would then need to try to recover her account by email or phone number if possible. If that doesn't work then a clerk has to call the global service center to have them contact her to recover it.

Odds are the account has her name and his MRN. That would create confusion in the long run.

Depending on the situation, it might be better to change the name on the account to his name and let him have it. Or else support has to get involved and fix things up.
