LDS account for missionary to start papers

#1

Post by criley1540 »

My son is trying to get into the site to do his mission papers. He inputs his information but nothing will let him in. The bishop has done his part, but we can't figure out how to get in. I am wondering if he has somehow two accounts. His name is [name and membership number removed]. We would really like to get this resolved and I'm not sure who to contact. I can't find any contact information for church missionary help.

Thanks,
Carolyn Riley

Please note that this is a public forum. I've removed his name and membership number as a precaution.

The system won't allow a duplicate LDS Account with the same membership number.

Is the problem that he can't log into his LDS Account at all, or just not into the missionary site?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

You will most likely need to talk with the Global Service Center, as they are the only ones authorized to work on LDS Account issues. Their number is 1-855-537-4357. Here are the correct options on the menu (to get you through it faster):

1 for English, 3 for "Missionaries", 2 for "Technical Issues", 1 for "LDS Account").

My guess is there are duplicate accounts, and the one he's using does not have his Membership Record Number associated to it.

I had a problem with this myself where I could log into lds.org, but the missionary online system I couldn't until I was made the Stake Clerk (I was having the problems when I was Ward Clerk).

I'm now seeing another user having the similar problem as I was having, where I could log on to everywhere else like lds.org but couldn't log on to Missionary Online.

I hope someone could explain what is happening and how it could be fixed please.

Thanking you all in advance.

Except for bishops and stake presidents (who automatically have access to the online missionary system by virtue of their callings), all others have to be given access by the bishop or stake president before they can sign in. That includes new missionary applicants in order to fill out applications, and clerks and others who might help fill out or verify applications. So if you think you should be able to sign into the missionary system, but can't, you need to talk to your bishop (for missionary applicants or ward clerks) or to your stake president (for stake clerks).

I speak for most of the Bishops in our my Stake, because not all Bishops and Stake Presidents are across technology or in this case, our lds online systems, how can I explain to a Bishop what he needs to do?

Example; is there an online 'How to' give one access?

The help system for the Missionary Online Recommendation System tells you as stake clerk and every other user what they need to do. The help system is different for different roles; there are at least different systems for stake presidents, stake clerks, bishops, and ward clerks. For example, a bishop has a topic "Initiating a New Recommendation" but the stake president doesn't; bishops and stake presidents have a topic "Adding, Changing, or Removing Clerk Access" but clerks don't).

Here's what I would recommend (note that the follow links won't work for everyone, but they should work for a stake clerk who is signed into the system):
  1. Read the stake clerk's topic Introducing the System to Bishops.
  2. Make sure that you point the bishops to their help system; in particular the two examples you have asked about are answered in their help topics Adding, Changing, or Removing Clerk Access and Initiating a New Recommendation.
  3. Be aware that responsibility for supporting this missionary system falls primarily on the stake clerk and stake technology specialist; the Help Desk will answer questions only from them or the stake president. So you need to make sure that you understand the system and that bishops and other users know that they should call you for help.

Bishops have a "help sheet" they can print out for the missionaries that helps them get logged on step by step, including applying for an account if they don't have one.

Correct. It's called the "Quick-Start Guide for Missionary Candidates" and in step 7 of the Initiating a New Recommendation instructions I linked to above, the bishop is specifically instructed to print that out and give it to the missionary candidate.
