Roku App

I was curious about helping out on the Roku app for the Mormon Channel, but I didn't see it on the list of projects. Is that project handled differently?

My understanding about the Mormon Channel on Roku is that the Church contracts with a 3rd party to program and maintain the Roku code base. The Church can then focus on content.

It's a very popular channel!

BYU TV also contracted with a 3rd party for their channel.

BYU-Idaho went the home-built route, but our proof-of-concept channel is on hold right now. University leadership is not sure how a Roku channel helps our communication strategy. We also don't have a large library of content like BYU and the Church.

What is your experience with Roku development? If the university decides to proceed, I'll need to train another student employee as a Roku developer. I wouldn't mind having an added mentor involved!

For anyone interested in watching Church content using Roku, I have a project underway that makes all of the content from videos.lds.org and the mobile Gospel Library app available for viewing using my Roku channel. It can even play downloaded videos (with subtitles!) from the USB port.

You can add it to your Roku at https://owner.roku.com/add/gospellibraryvideos

The code and additional documentation is at https://github.com/paulwhiting/GospelLi ... s/releases
