Cortana not working on Meetinghouse Internet

Cortana on my Windows Phone 8.1 is not working on LDSAccess. I know that bing.com is working, but when I try to search using Cortana does not work. Could I have some help?

My best guess is that the network is too saturated to handle the traffic necessary for Cortana to work. There is a filter, but I'm not sure where the audio clip is being sent to, so I'm not sure how to test to see if the audio clip is being filtered out.

I'd suggest asking on the Windows-specific forums since they'd know more about how Cortana works. You might also try turning off the WiFi and using your data package.

In many cases, the meetinghouse internet is no better than the local home internet split up among all the members. In other cases, it's dramatically less as they may not have been able to get fiber or cable to the building, so it may be only DSL or maybe even 4G cell service.

It's not just audio or a bandwidth issue. I have the same issue and I can't do a search from Windows phone. I can open up any search engine in a browser, but I can't use the Search function on the phone.

I still suggest checking with Windows-specific forums to find out how Cortana works. I see other people having problems with their WiFi networks, but so far no real answers. Someone is going to have to figure out what Cortana needs before there any hope of approaching the church networking team about a fix.

I spent a little more time testing this today and have some new information. For some reason, https://www.bing.com gives a certificate error when connected to LDSAccess. It says "This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority" and says it was issued by Zscaler Intermediate Root CA. When at home or on other networks, the bing certificate is valid and says that it is issued by Microsoft IT SSL SHA2. Hopefully someone understands what is going on here.

Interesting. Might want to try a TRACERT while on the church network. I'll do that if I remember.

I am having the same issue with 5 of our family's Windows Phones. I have been to the chapel when there are no others present and still have the issue, so it is not a bandwidth type issue. I suspect jasonminer is on to something with the cert issue.

I took a screen shot using my laptop. The certificate on the left is when connecting directly to the cable modem, the certificate on the right is when connected through the firewall. The Church is using Zpath with is a Zscaler product. The issue getting to https://www.bing.com is the same issue when doing a search on Windows Phone or via Cortana on Windows 10. I am working with GSC on this. I will post what I find out.
