I can't get the indexing app to load. I would like to be able to use the tablet for indexing over the holiday.

The indexing program doesn't run on mobile devices. For a short time a few years ago there was a mobile app for indexing that was being tested on Android and iOS, but it was discontinued because its features were minimal and it didn't produce quality results. FamilySearch is in the process of creating a new, browser-based indexing experience that will work on any device with a modern browser, but it's not available yet except for internal testing and a beta that uses test data.

Samuel, have you heard anything more about this? I spend a lot of time on my iPad away from my desktop and would love to get back into indexing.....,

Yes, here's the latest:
https://familysearch.org/blog/en/web-indexing/

Stake temple and family history consultants have access to web indexing now, ward temple and family history consultants will receive access in the Spring, and everyone will have access in the Summer.
