Paper ward newsletters vs/in social media

#1

Post by isabel49 »

Is there a difference between what can be published in a ward paper newsletter (birthdays, new callings), which is handed out to all members as opposed to posting that same paper newsletter on a social media site or sending it out electronically to a ward list in email form?

Things put on social media would fall under the guidelines shown at internet.lds.org. The other routes mentioned fall into a gray area and are likely subject to local laws which can vary from state to state but most certainly vary from country to country.

Note that some people may not appreciate getting an email and you need to provide a way from them to opt out. Likewise, some people may not appreciate having their birthday advertised. Birthdates are an important component in identify theft.
