List of approved software for family history computers

#1

Post by jtyewhit »

Our stake has an audit exception for the family history center computer because it isn't clear which software on it is licensed/free.

Is there a list of approved software for family history computers?

I know about this site that lists some apps you might be interested in if you do family history (https://partners.familysearch.org/solutionsgallery/s/) but am looking for an official list of software that is licensed by the church or free that can be on the family history computers.

The only list I'm aware of is the software you can download from the FHC portal on FamilySearch or the Church management app installed on the computer.

For everything else, you'll have to read the Terms of Service or End User Licensing Agreement for the software in question.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

To be more specific, it would be any software found at fhc.familysearch.org (not much, it's mostly websites) as well as what's listed in the "FHC Application Finder" app.

Beyond that, it's the EULA. For example, IrfanView says "1a) IrfanView is free for educational use (schools, universities, museums, libraries, national park services) and for use in charity or humanitarian organisations."

Many apps say "free for personal use", but a FHC isn't "personal use".
