LCR - mailing of ministering routes

#1

Post by mlbain »

Good afternoon. I'm new to the Leadership and Clerk resources tool. I have made changes to the ministering routes and have tried to send them out via e-mail using the "send assignments" drop down tab from Leadership and Clerk Resources. The sisters have received the message but no attachment. When I sent it to myself, I received the message and the attachment. Is the tool broken or am I doing something wrong? Does it have something to do with certain privileges to the tool? I could use some help, I'm getting frustrated. Thank you!!!!! :D

Our Stake President expressly said he did not want ministering assignments handed out. This is not Home Teaching he said. It is ministering and reporting. Assignments are organized on paper but communicated in person during an interview. In these times interviews are easier than ever. Text or pick up a phone to give assignments and get reports.

For quite awhile our a EQ president insisted that the church LCR was flawed because he couldn’t report each visit to each family. It took awhile but we finally convinced him that this whole effort is about contact and ministering in any meaningful form and that the reporting aspect is about accountability of the ministering brother or sister.

Home and Visiting teaching percentages were dependent on the actions of the person assigned, ministering percentages are entirely determined by the actions of the presidency. In reality there is no excuse for not achieving and reporting 100% quarterly for ministering. It’s just about how many interviews are conducted not about how many families were ministered to. The interview is the important thing because it’s the opportunity for the ministering brother or sister to be held accountable and for the presidency member to do some teaching and coaching.

Stepping off soap box now.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the update. I'm new as a R.S. President. This is good information I will use and pass on as necessary. Have a great day!

Ministering looks like elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies prayerfully counseling about assignments. Rather than leaders just handing out slips of paper, it looks like counseling about the individuals and families in person as assignments are given to ministering brothers and sisters.

I’d suggest that “given to ministering brothers and sisters.” is done verbally during an interview, at least that’s how our Stake president wants it.

I don't fully agree with him, but I think he's trying to break old habits.

Personally, I don't see a problem with handing out the assignment as long as it's accompanied with discussion about the assignment. It's about moving away from the "check the box" mentality. But, people are people, and given a chance they will fall back into old habits.
