How long do we hang on to certain records

I understand that we keep financial records for three years.

What about records for those who receive welfare support? Is that in the same category as a financial record that we keep for three years? Or should we shred those records after an audit?

How about documents related to legal proceedings? The bishop didn't tell me what the proceeding was about, so I don't have details there.

Three prior years plus current year in the United States. Other countries have different requirements.

If welfare records were needed for an audit, It sounds to me as if they were financial records and should be retained according to the financial rules.

When the bishop contacted the hot line concerning legal proceedings, they should have been able to answer his question about document retention. I am surprised he retained any at all. I would expect Headquarters would have any records concerning legal proceedings. In any event, the bishop should be able to call the hot line again for guidance on that one.

It's a new bishop going through files left behind by the last bishop.
I'll recommend he call the legal hotline. Much thanks.
