Easy way to export viewers?

#1

Post by grafbj »

Our bishopric is asking for a report each Sunday of viewers of the Sacrament meeting broadcast. I can go in and copy and paste all viewers into excel and start cleaning it up (I was working on creating a macro that deletes all rows that don't include a hyperlink (just to keep the names of viewers)) but I'm struggling as my VBA-fu is about 20 years rusty.

Anyone else receive the same ask from their Bishopric? Would it not be easy for the developers to add an 'export viewers' button in the UI to dump a CSV for the wards?

Thoughts?

I monitor a number of sacrament meetings each week, and several of the bishops have asked for names. I copy/paste into a text file, because that is easier for me to clean up.

If the developers are asked to make it easier for us to do this, I would hope they would also include the length of time the connection lasted. When I do not recognize a name, I check the connection time. And if it is only for a few minutes, I leave the name off of the list.

Keep in mind that the developers do not make the decision, and that this whole business of webcasting sacrament meetings is supposed to be "temporary".

I’ve just been saving the event stats screen as-is to a PDF file and uploading it to a cloud file server. The files are shared with the bishops and ward clerks in the stake. I feel like they know the members of their wards better than I do. So it is more intuitive for them to parse out which names should be counted or not.
I’ve also encouraged members to list their last names and the number of viewers when connecting to the meeting webcast. Not everyone follows the instructions. But those that do are giving a little bit more information to help the bishoprics.

I'd appreciate such a feature. Especially since LCR provides the notice: "Beginning in October 2020, we ask that local unit leaders and clerks, where practical and possible, record the number of members who participate in sacrament meeting in person or on a broadcast."

Adding such a feature surely is possible and would make such record-keeping more practical. It is easier, not necessarily simple, to capture participation in Zoom or other technologies than the Church's own webcast system.

Unfortunately, as a ward membership clerk, I do not have access to the webcasting system. It is being centrally managed in my stake and our stake technology specialists are not interested in even providing a copy/paste or PDF of names.

They may not be interested, but if asked, they should certainly provide the information. If you have asked without success, your bishop should ask them. And if there still is no response, your bishop should ask the stake president to ask them.

And if that does not work, the bishop simply informs the stake president that he is not able to comply with instructions from Church headquarters regarding sacrament meeting attendance. That should get the stake's attention.

You can also ask your SP if you can be given the calling of Assistant Technology Specialist. That way, you would be able to see the list of names yourself on post events. The list is currently NOT in an easy downloadable format. Each name must be clicked on to see the viewing time and other info. There's no field for a viewer to list the number of people watching on that device, unless they've been instructed to provide that number next to their name by the ward or stake. Even entering a name is optional - someone clicking through that field will show up as "Anonymous". I've seen some provide only a first name and others use an alias such as their church account username. Even with the visibility of the ATS calling, it's still a guessing game as to how many were actually watching.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.
