List of members 'Living out of Unit'?
Hello fellow Clerks
I have recently been called as an Asst Stake Clerk and my first major assignment in this role is to generate a list of all the members living out of unit in each of the units in my Stake, and members living out of the Stake bounaries. I personally know of two members who live outside of the Stake's boundaries but can see no way of locating them for this report. I have served as a Ward Clerk some 5 years ago but there appear to have been some significant changes in where (MLS or LCR) things are done and how they are done.
Now I could probably spend the next few weeks(months?) trying to find a way of doing this ... Or I could seek some assistance from the plethora of experienced Clerks already familiar with the tools and processes I will need to use. For example, I have found that there is(was??) a tool called the 'Boundary and Leadership Tool' but have found little else about it, and it may be useless for my task anyway.
I would be MOST grateful if I could be pointed at the the tools, etc. I will need to utilise and, possibly, a process to follow ...
Regards
Malcolm Fletcher

I'd go to "Ward Directory and Map" on the main website.
Select a ward and observe all the dots outside of the boundaries. Click on each dot to get the name and address. Be sure to zoom out to catch people way outside of the boundaries.
You may need to do a follow up to make sure the address really is outside of the boundaries. The map may have placed the street number in the wrong spot.
Because this is something most anyone can do, the stake might want to consider warning the wards that a crack down is coming and to start working on the problem. That should help fix the false mapping and get them reducing the number people that will end up on that report.

Thanks Russell. Simple as that! I guess that I need to do some real study of the tools available, even the simple ones ...
I will run it by the Stake Clerk about a note to Bishops/Ward Clerks and then I can practice while they sort out their own units. It might be a good time to suggest that ALL addresses in a unit might be verified, too, as we sometimes have new ministers assigned and they discover that a family hasn't been there for years ...

I'm sure the inquiry will find a number of things. In some cases, the address might be a work address as the person keeps moving.flashfletch wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 6:58 pm It might be a good time to suggest that ALL addresses in a unit might be verified, too, as we sometimes have new ministers assigned and they discover that a family hasn't been there for years ...
I'm sure the attention will stir up a discussion.

Re: List of members 'Living out of Unit'?
The idea of 'verifying' a members address on WDMap is new to me (I never saw it as an option while I was Clerking). I have spent an hour or so trying to find how this is done, but I suspect that as I'm a Stake Clerk I can't do it from my login (my address is one of the few in my Ward that are actually verified ).
I have tried every search I can think of and cannot find where the process is described and I don't want to ask the Clerks to do something I don't know how to do. Do you know the place where this is laid out so that I can look like I know what I'm doing if one of them asks ...?

No, I can't find any files that lay this out. I don't have access, but from what I remember, you click on the household in question and then drag the pin to where it should be on the map. Someone else should have the details.flashfletch wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:49 pm I have tried every search I can think of and cannot find where the process is described and I don't want to ask the Clerks to do something I don't know how to do. Thanks anyway. I'll have to talk to a friendly Ward Clerk about it ...

Re: List of members 'Living out of Unit'?
If I pull up the "Ward Directory and Map", clicking on a household dot brings up their info, and flags if an address is unverified. This is the only way I am aware of to determine if member addresses have been verified or not. So if address verification is part of this process, I'd anticipate this being a repetitive and time-consuming process (where's our interns when we need them? ) But I'd love for somebody to point out a better way to dig this info out...

Re: List of members 'Living out of Unit'?
Just to be clear, the only "verification" going on is the location on the map. Sometimes the address to GPS coordinate process comes up with some wild answers.BrianEdwards wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:59 pm If I pull up the "Ward Directory and Map", clicking on a household dot brings up their info, and flags if an address is unverified. And, yes, this will be a "one at a time" process.

Re: List of members 'Living out of Unit'?
When I served as clerk, I noticed that sometimes Bing maps gives a more accurate location than Google maps does. If you have new housing developments in your area, it seems to take a couple of years for Google maps to get the location close. There were times where I had to physically go to the member's homes to know for certain which one was theirs.
Note: Members can verify their own home location on the ward directory and maps application, but most never do so.
